What Does it Mean to Be Connected in the 21st Century?
UpStart, the BJE and the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco
invite you to a screening of Connected
Join us on September 14 for an advanced screening of the soon-to-be-released film Connected by acclaimed filmmaker Tiffany Shlain, followed by an engaging conversation with the filmmaker, and renowned teacher and author Rabbi Lawrence Kushner. Social entrepreneur and innovative thinker Rachel Brodie, now the JCCSF’s Chief Jewish Officer, will facilitate the discussion.
Connected is a vibrant and insightful film with an ambitious agenda: to explore the visible and invisible connections linking the major issues of our time – the environment, consumption, population growth, technology, human rights, the global economy. Director Tiffany Shlain uses her own search for her place in the world to ask big questions and encourage the audience to consider the meaning of life in the 21st century. Touching on themes as varied as wisdom, family, and innovation, this sweeping film is bound to inspire anyone who has wondered about how to believe, teach, change, and live in modern times.
Please join us after the screening. Our discussion will focus on what Jewish wisdom has to teach us about interdependence, and how we live our lives, in this era of rapid technological advancement. Where do Jewish teachings, innovation, and the ideas put forth in Connected intersect, and how can they guide us as we walk (and text and blog) through our lives?
